Level 3 - Fezzano - 2 weekends – residential course

Topics of both weekends 

Shipmaster 1

• Mantainance and check
• Boat: structure, standing or running rigging (manovre fisse e correnti)
• Engine: Cooling system, lubrication, fuel supply and transmission
• Electric plant
• Getting to know the instruments aboard, nautical documents, boat documents, safety equipment, radio usage
• Harbour entrance and exit procedures, maneuvering in port areas, use of acustic signals and priority rules
• Wind and Sea effect on different situations
• propwalk: how to use it while manouvering in tight spaces and while docking
• Mooring: bow-on or stern-on, on the side, mooring lines, hawsers and bouys.

Shipmaster 2

• how to get the boat and the crew ready
• Sail with bad weather conditions and reduce sails
• MOR and  picking up the mooring bouy
• Anchoring: anchor types, how to use it manually or with a power winch, anchoring techniques, effect of weather conditions and how to chose an anchoring spot
• Knots: knowledge of the main nautical knots, how to make them and how much they hold
